Today, February 12, is the two year anniversary of the murder of Lawrence King. When Larry asked another 8th grade boy, Brandon, to be his Valentine, Brandon brought a gun to school and shot Larry in the head.At the age of 14, Larry had already achieved what some of us could not, the ability to identify and claim his sexuality and fabulous gender non-conforming expression. Young people like Lawrence King should be celebrated, loved, appreciated, and be enabled to grow beyond our own expectations. And, instead, Larry's life was cut short for the fierce way he went through life, and more, for a society that raises many people to choose hate over love.
In honor of Lawrence King today, please remember him: say a prayer, make a wish, do a random act of kindness, step outside your gender, challenge your neighbor, stand up for young LGBTQ folks everywhere.
You can also check in with the GSA Network and find actions in your area, like candlelight vigils or rallies.
